Facebook has been busy the last few weeks as a large amount of direct sellers have been placed in the infamous “Facebook Jail” with many left wondering why. While Facebook blocks happen, hardly any of our own users are currently incarcerated. Still, it saddens us to see so many frustrated and confused so we wanted to help clear things up and share with you the truth about why Facebook blocks occur and how to avoid it from happening to you.

The truth about Facebook Jail

There are reasons why Facebook is blocking top leaders and direct sellers.

When you have thousands, even tens of thousands, of people posting the same images, saying the same product information, and sharing at the same time – this looks exactly like a bot.

So, the goal is to NOT look like a bot and to differentiate your content from that of the other sellers selling the same items as you.

Here are ways you can help yourself avoid Facebook jail.

1. Don’t only use company provided product images.

Why: We know that it is convenient and exciting to post images that your company is giving you to market your latest products and sales but with thousands upon thousands of direct sellers and consultants sharing the same exact images and post messages, Facebook’s security measures will quickly block those posts because it views them as a possible “attack” to their platform.

Facebook’s algorithm isn’t sophisticated enough to identify malicious vs. non malicious content, it simply sees thousands of the exact same content flooding the system and assumes it to be malicious so the posts or even entire Facebook profiles get blocked.

If you’re posting massed produced content, Facebook blocks will likely happen to your posts in order to protect their platform from being flooded with duplicated and auto-bot type posting.

Solution: Using your own product images in a way that is both personalized and fun (think product selfie!) will help prevent this from occurring. Take the time to think outside the box to market your products. Not only will people notice them more but they’ll be more inclined to buy from you for standing out from the crowd!

2. Personalize party scripts shared with you – do not copy them exactly.

Why:  If you’re sharing exact party, class or training scripts  with your team and they are then sharing with their own team and no one is taking the time to personalize their posts and parties and make the content their own, Facebook will notice this and can block you from posting.

Solution: The easiest and best way to avoid this from taking place is to simply share IDEAS. Give your team of direct sellers a script guideline and offer them support and tips on how to make their own parties super fun and engaging. We all have our own unique personalities and they should come across in every single post in our parties. This blog post expands upon this topic.

3. Switch up your post type – do not only post single image posts.

Why: When you’re in the live portion of your Facebook party and you’re posting image post after image post in quick succession (we’re talking 1-3 minutes apart) Facebook will see this as not only spammy but robotic and can block you.

Solution: To avoid this Facebook blocks, we suggest that you alternate your post type and have an image, then a link/video followed by a status then an image and so on. Variety is key! Using custom albums and multi-photo posts are great  ways to showcase a lot of images within one post, without tripping Facebook’s spam filters.

4. Avoid engagement baiting.

Why: Typically engagement is the name of the game on Facebook, however, when Facebook is on high alert (which includes the holiday season), it’s not the best time to play games and contests or have engagement posts where your Call to Action is to have people react and/or comment on your posts to win.

Solution: Try posting authentic content that requires your followers to engage naturally. Ask questions that help you learn more about your potential customer and what they need and want and be sure to offer value by posting tips and hacks so they continually return for more! Also be aware that you can get blocked from liking and/or commenting others’ posts, so be mindful of your own engagement!

The truth about Facebook Jail is this…

Facebook blocks are not a virus. It is Facebook heightening their security in an effort to prevent malicious attacks on THEIR platform. When this happens, Facebook forces a new access token for accounts and Facebook throttles the activity on their platform that their systems have flagged as potentially dangerous.

Facebook doesn’t care if you are scheduling your content or manually posting your content. It is WHAT you are posting and your overall platform behavior.
